About the artist

Gar Hoover is a screenwriter, filmmaker, photographer and playwright. As a team with his collaborator, Beth, his work has won or placed in more than two dozen independent film festivals and writing competitions, taking top honors in eight.

He is currently at work on a documentary called The Paris Coffee Project. His latest narrative feature project, Satisfying Alice, was recently workshopped by a Paris-based theatre company. His most recent short project, The Oblate, won Best Screenplay at the 2014 Comedy Ninja Film Festival and was earlier an award winner at Moondance Film Festival, L.A. Comedy Shorts, Kansas City Film Festival and ReelHeart International Film Festival in Toronto. 


Gar teaches screenwriting at Loyola University Chicago to students in the international Film and Digital Media program. He helped develop the curriculum for the school's Story for Film & TV and Screenwriting courses. He is also a member of the Film & TV Faculty at The Second City, the world-renowned comedy writing and performance training center, where he and Beth lead sold-out Story workshops in the TV, Film & Digital program.

Gar is creative director at ideafarm films, a boutique agency, for which he's shot numerous short films, music videos and web series. See his photographic series print shop on Etsy. He's represented on the writing side by a New York-based literary and talent agency.
